I liked the way these covers looked and I tried to pick covers that looked unique and different. I noticed I either chose something that was colorful, or something with no color. I also chose covers that were simple but it caught my attention. For example, the first book cover is extremely simple, but it was so hypnotic I couldn't leave the page without choosing the cover. The third cover is pretty organized. There is color and everything is symmetrical and orderly. It goes from one end to the next and so on.
          The first cover, I liked how it was so simple and it sort of hypnotized me to choose it. The second cover is extremely straightforward. I like that it was pretty creative because I would assume the book was about running from reading the title and a path is created on the cover of the book where the arrows tell you exactly where to read. The third cover I thought was also creative and orderly. There are multiple colors on the cover and the colors are repeated in every row. I thought this cover was cool because the title is read going down. The fourth cover caught my attention because it just looked lonely. The bed is just there in the center and there are no contrasting colors, it just seems sad and lonely. The final cover I chose I thought was creative because there is a shape of a woman who seems distressed and in the shape, there are a bunch of words that include the title, author, etc. I also liked the top of the cover which is a rainbow. This was a creative cover that evoked a lot of meaning. 

My Favorite Book

 
This book is a pretty good book. I also really liked the movie. Although the book was really good, I don't think the cover especially made the book stand out. I don't think the cover promotes the book well enough. I mean this book was about a guy named Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio in the movie [he is SOOOOO hot]) and Gatsby hosted many many parties that were extravagant but he really was not happy himself. It is represented by the face and the tear on the cover. The background looks like an extravagant party and it looks very festive. But most of the book described the green light he saw across the waters and I feel this book cover should have really depicted that. I like this book, but honestly the cover could have been a bit better.   

Millennium High School Handbook

 

Process:

           At first I researched about Millennium and I read reviews about this school and surprisingly so many people want to come to Millennium. After I researched it, I looked up some pictures of phoenixes so I could work on the main part of my cover. Then, I drew a couple of thumbnail sketches for inspiration. I decided to combine two pictures together. I used a bold red color to fill in the phoenix and i wanted to make the phoenix both cute and bold at the same time. So I made the face cute and then I made the wings bold and I drew the bottom part that way to give the phoenix some power. I just colored everything in and tried to make the center, which was the phoenix as bold as possible. 

American Sign Language Club Logo Design

How does your Logo design represent the after school club or activity? (Font choice, symbol, colors, layout, etc)
       My logo represents Sign Language Club because I incorporated the American flag in the background to differentiate the language from other sign language such as British Sign Language. I also created the shape of a sign because it is called American SIGN Language. In the sign, I also tried to make it more patriotic by making the word "American" in red, the hands signing ASL in white, and the words "Language Club" in blue. Both the sign shape and the hands symbolize the club.
Which process was most helpful in creating your design? (research thumbnail sketches, concept board, 2 rough drafts, digital draft on Gimp, etc.)
       The process that was most helpful in creating my design was the concept board because I laid out all my ideas on the paper and looking at all the different ways to design the logo for American Sign Language club. I actually used the hand signs I found from Google and incorporated it into my logo design.  
What was the most challenging aspect about the logo project?
       The most challenging aspect of the logo project was making sure my design looked like a logo. The very first logo design I created was this: 
I was really satisfied with this design at first, but it was really complicated and it was not really hard to understand, 
 but there was too much involved in that design, so the harder part was making it more simple and making it so it was easier to read and comprehend.
Are you satisfied with your final design? Why is your logo successful?  If you not satisfied with your design, what would you like to change?
       I am pretty satisfied with my final design because I worked really hard on it and it was successful because I got my point across and it is easy to see. I am happy with the end result of my logo design for the American Sign Language Club.

Summary of the Club I'm Designing

Summary of The American Sign Language club
            I am going to design an ASL logo. I really like ASL because it is a lot of fun and I learned a lot over the three years through that club. We also performed at showcase last year with ASL to a song and it was really cool because people were amazed at all the symbols that were represented instead of words with our hands. The entire ASL language is literally symbols and I was planning to use Abbreviations to design ASL. At first, we learned the most basic thing, the alphabet and then we moved on from there and we started learning phrases like "I like..." "I eat..." "I live in..." etc. We also used a sign language website, two actually, (Listed Below) one which showed you how to do phrases and another which makes you guess what is spelled. ASL is really fun to learn because it is easily related to everyday motions we use without knowing.

Finding Type

These are the 6 types of fonts I found. 

The first one is the sign right above the subway entrance of 14th Street Union Square. This font is most similar to San Serif. This basically was a description and a location. I thought it was appropriate because it was not confusing and it is meant to help people out and it was pretty basic.

The second one is the sign for Panera Bread. This font is most similar to Decorative. This was appropriate because it was smartly used to catch people's eyes as they walk by. I saw this and immediately took the picture because the two words are not the same exact font. 

The third one is the sign for Au Bon Pain. This font is most similar to Modern and Oldstyle because the letters are all cut in two parts and it creates this vision of thin and thick parts of each letter. I thought this sign should have been written in a more creative way to catch people's eye because it should be more decorative like Panera. They are trying to sell food to people so I think making it look more different rather than boring would bring more customers. 

The fourth one is on my advisory t-shirt. The word JEFA is more decorative I guess because it is all in capital letters and it really isn't a mix of anything. This was appropriate because it is loud and clear and it stands out apart from the shirt. (Jefa means Boss)

The fifth one is the coca-cola font. it is in script. I think it is appropriate just because it has been known for such a long time and there are so many people who purchase their product. This product is known all around the world and it is distinct from other products. 

The last one is taken at Pommes Frites. It is Decorative and kind of Slab Serif. It is appropriate because they sell authentic fries there and it is what they are known for. It has this old look/style to it and many people are customers there and they enjoy the authenticness of the entire place.
